KLAUS MÄKELÄ AT TURKU MUSIC FESTIVAL & BALTIC SEA FESTIVAL

Klaus Mäkelä opens the 60th edition Turku Music Festival – his first as Artistic Director – conducting a celebratory concert on 8 August. He conducts the Turku Philharmonic Orchestra and the programme includes Mahler Des Knaben Wunderhorn with soprano Dorothea Röschmann and tenor Thomas Hampson, and Strauss Also sprach Zarathustra. Mäkelä will also appear as a cellist in chamber music concerts. 

Mäkelä then travels to Stockholm for the Baltic Sea Festival where he conducts the Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra with whom he is Principal Guest Conductor. The concert on 26 August 2019 features a sea-themed programme of Zemlinsky Die Seejungfrau, Bloch Schelomo with soloist Truls Mørk, and Debussy La Mer.
