Concertgebouw debut and return to Frankfurt

Klaus Mäkelä makes his debut with the Concertgebouworkest in Amsterdam this week, conducting four concerts over two days on Thursday and Friday (24 and 25 September). Music featured in the two programmes comprises the world premiere of Subito con forza by Unsuk Chin, Jimmy Lopez’s The Travails of Persiles and Sigismunda: Fourth Book, Tchaikovsky’s Piano Concerto No. 1 with soloist Beatrice Rana and Sibelius Symphony No. 1. Both performances on 25 September will be streamed on the orchestra’s facebook and then made available for a limited time on both youtube and the orchestra’s website.

From Amsterdam, Mäkelä travels on to Germany to conduct the Frankfurt Radio Symphony (30 September and 1 October) in four performances of Shostakovich Symphony No. 14 with soloists Mina-Liisa Värelä (soprano) and Mika Kares (bass). Hessische Rundfunk will broadcast the concert on 2 October on radio and a video stream of the performance will follow on both the orchestra’s website and Arte.
