CONDUCTOR IN RESIDENCE AT THE GRANADA FESTIVAL

Invited as the Conductor in Residence of the 70th edition of the Granada Festival in Spain, Klaus Mäkelä leads three orchestras in diverse programmes.

On 22 June Mäkelä led the Mahler Chamber Orchestra and pianist Javier Perianes in a programme of Sibelius and Grieg, followed a few days later with a concert featuring Jörg Widmann, Bartók and Beethoven with the Orquesta Ciudad de Granada. He returns for his final performance in Granada on 11 July with the Orchestre de Paris performing Ravel, Bruch and Dvořák, with soloist Janine Jansen –  a programme which they then take to the Aix en Provence Festival on 13 July.

Interviewing him prior to his first performance in Granada, El Pais observed “On the podium you can see his ability to narrate and dialogue with each orchestra” and reviewing his most recent concert, Scherzo commented that Mäkelä has made “a deep impression. For his elegance, his talent, his musical approach, diligence, precision … And, in the end, for the results obtained in two concerts that will remain in the modern history of the festival.”
