Orchestre de Paris

” A dazzling concert presenting the 3 great ballets of 1909-1913 by Igor Stravinsky, Firebird, Petrushka and The Rite of Spring, a dream I’d always had of hearing all three in the same concert, and with the quality of performance offered this evening … gorging myself on the constantly renewed hectic rhythms, the fabulous gleam of the timbres, the impressive instrumental velocity, the precision of the attacks, the melting of the orchestra’s sound, the power of the reliefs and contrasts of the scores illuminated by soli and tutti from all the players, while Klaus Mäkelä carried the Orchestre de Paris to incandescence, drunk with rhythms and luminescent colours.”

” …  the fantastic interpretation of Klaus Mäkelä, a true wizard who cast a spell on the Orchestre de Paris, and whose rise in power asserts itself with each concert. Petrushka broken, scathing, enjoyable in its acidic blows of provocative winds, The Rite of Spring prodigiously beaten, extremely fast but of maddening range and rhythmic precision.”

“… the lively Klaus Mäkelä and the Orchestre de Paris set this Bird on fire (Firebird) … Electrified by a leaping devil (The Rite of Spring), the Orchestre de Paris renders all its harshness, dynamics, interwoven rhythms, multiple changes of atmosphere and silences … The varied timbres and complex, often dissonant harmony are perfectly rendered by the acoustics of the large Salle Pierre-Boulez.”
