WIENER KONZERTHAUS INVITES KLAUS MÄKELÄ TO BE “PORTRAIT ARTIST”

Klaus Mäkelä will feature at the Wiener Konzerthaus as a Portrait Artist throughout the 2021/22 season.

The prestigious series opens with a chamber music concert on 22 September and a programme of Dvořák and Schumann. Klaus Mäkelä plays cello, joining Julian Rachlin, Boris Brovtsyn, Sarah McElravy and Javier Perianes. He returns to conduct two concerts on 3 and 4 December with the Wiener Symphoniker and soloist Sol Gabetta in a programme of Webern, Mahler, Bloch and Bartók.

The series concludes in May 2022 when Klaus Mäkelä brings the Oslo Philharmonic to Vienna for a three day residency of the complete Sibelius Symphony cycle. Sibelius was the composer focus in Mäkelä’s first season as Chief Conductor in Oslo and it music that is close to both his and the orchestra’s heart. To be able to perform the complete cycle in Vienna as a part of their first international tour together is a major highlight of the second season.
